The Bearcats defeated the Nocona JV on Thursday, Nov. 8 by a score of 28-26 to wrap up a 9-1 season and a 5-0 district record.
An opening drive touchdown by the Indians and a fumbled kickoff by the Bearcats left the team with a 12-0 deficit before the offense had even been on the field.
They answered back though, with a 3-yard Cody Fletcher touchdown run and a Riley Watson conversion run. Watson intercepted a pass on Nocona’s next drive and the Bearcats took a 14-12 lead on a 7-yard pass from Watson to Nick Offield. Colten Stewart killed Nocona’s next drive with another Bearcat interception.
Disaster struck two plays later, when the snap went over the quarterback’s head for a safety. They short field after the kickoff into the wind led to an Indian touchdown and a 20-14 halftime lead.
The Bearcats tied the game at 20 in the fourth quarter with a 9-yard Fletcher run. Nocona answered to take a 26-20 lead with around 6 minutes to go in the game.
Cody Fletcher scored on a 45-yard run on the Bearcats ensuing possession. The game winning two-point conversion came on a pass from Watson to Offield.
The offensive line of Kirkland Hoff, Logan Carter, Zach Bloodworth, Chance Edgett and Connor Duncan had an outstanding game. The defense standouts included Carter, Fletcher, Watson, Leo Hunter, and Jeremiah Johnson that had a big sack to seal the victory.
The coaching staff is extremely proud of the effort that these boys displayed throughout the entire season.
