Petrolia’s varsity volleyball season came to a close in four sets Tuesday night in Bowie with a Region I quarterfinal loss to the Bryson Cowgirls, 14-25, 19-25, 25-23, 24-26.

“They played really good defense,” said Petrolia Head Coach DeDe Gray of the Lady Pirates’ opponent. “They are not big hitters at all, but they are one of the best defensive team we have faced this season.”

Allie Ablia led the Lady Pirates with 11 kills, followed by Kirsten Kenyon with 10 kills and Hanna Heuring with five kills.

Petrolia was playing without Cheyenne Reese, who suffered a concussion earlier this week. Sophomore Sidney Mobley moved into Reese’s role. Gray said Mobley put out a great effort, giving the Lady Pirates 12 “good, hard” serves.

Gray said Kenyon also played great defense and at the service line.

“We played about as hard as we could have,” said Gray. “It was a good season.”
