Burkhart, Lady Cats outhit Grape Creek, advance to quarterfinal


Henrietta’s Lady Cats celebrate after winning area Saturday in Eastland.

Sierra Burkhart was spot on at the net Saturday in Eastland, helping Henrietta to a win in the area round of the Class 2A state playoffs as the Lady Cats defeated San Angelo Grape Creek in four sets, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Henrietta will face district foe, and champion, Holliday in a Region I quarterfinal on Monday, Nov. 5 in Windthorst. Game time is 6:30 p.m. The Texas Girls Coaches Association ranks the Lady Eagles seventh in state.

Burkhart scored 17 kills for the Lady Cats, followed by Anni Scholl. Scholl also had a big night, scoring 10 kills and two aces, while picking up 11 digs. Addison Wade scored 10 kills, while Joyana Zamzow hit eight kills and three aces. Taylor Bennett scored five kills and five aces and Annelise Sauer added two aces. At setter, Katie Halsell put up 20 assists. Kailey Kirk had 11 set assists and scored three aces.

Sauer had 22 digs, while Cassie Pickett had 17 digs.
