Helen M. Luig Buchanan of Corpus Christi


Helen Marie Luig Buchanan, 87, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Oct. 8, 2012.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scotland, with Rev. Jack McKane, pastoral administrator, officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Boniface Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Mrs. Buchanan was born May 20, 1925 in Scotland to the Frank Joseph and Katherine (Schenk) Luig. She enjoyed western dancing and gardening. She retired from Kroger and was awarded friendliest checker of the year several times.


She is survived by a son, David Lee Sullivan, two daughters, Marilyn Kay McClasky and husband Ron, and Susan Ellen Halsey and husband Rex; two sisters, Florence Koetter and husband Kenneth of Henrietta, and Dorothy Scheffe; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three siblings, Raymond Luig, Gladys Meurer and Ed Luig; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Scheffe and Lloyd Meurer; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Luig.
