Henrietta Band earns ‘Superior’ rating in Saturday’s marching contest



Henrietta and Petrolia high school bands competed in the UIL Region 2 Marching Competition held Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.

The Henrietta Band received a “Superior” rating during the competition. Judges Luke McMillan of Abilene and Corey Ash of Brownwood gave Henrietta “1’s,” while Mike Lipe of Abilene Wylie gave Henrietta a “2.”

Brittany Taylor is drum major for the 2012-13 school year. The Henrietta Band is led by Director Kenneth Gilbreath, with Assistant Director Kevin Gilpatrick and Melissa Zamzow instructing woodwinds. Garnet Gilbreath and Brooke Shoemaker instruct the flag corps.

The Pride of Petrolia received a “2” rating, earning “2’s” from McMillan and Ash, and a “3” from Lipe. Petrolia was the first band to perform, taking the field at 8:30 a.m.

Kelce Lemons is drum major. Band Directors are David Belcher and Tom Hauptman.

Other area schools earning “Superior” ratings are Archer City, Windthorst, Munday, Electra, Olney, Throckmorton, Haskell, City View, Breckenridge, Bowie, Holliday, Iowa Park, Burkburnett and Wichita Falls Rider.
