Petrolia no match for No. 1 Munday, limited to 9 yards offense


Petrolia was no match for No. 1 ranked team in Class A Friday night, as Munday held the Pirates to a mere 9 yards total offense in a 67-0 defeat.

Munday outscored the Pirates by 54 points in the first half alone, following with a 13-point third quarter.

Southern Methodist University commitment Dee Paul had a hand in five of Munday’s 10 touchdowns. Paul connected with receiver Jake Myers on a 37-yard pass play to open the scoring, the found the end zone himself on a 15-yard run in the first quarter. Paul opened the second quarter with a 50-yard pass to Tyrone Dockins, and in the third quarter returned a punt 78 yards to score. Paul closed the third quarter on a 40-yard touchdown run.

Munday also scored on runs of one yard, nine yards, 30 yards, 50 yards. Garrett Weaver scored the final points of the game in the third quarter on a 76-yard punt return.

Petrolia carried the ball 34 times for minus two yards rushing and completed two of seven passes for 11 yards. Munday picked off two interceptions and Petrolia fumbled the ball five times, giving up one. Petrolia had zero first downs.

Munday finished with 223 yards rushing on 29 carries. Paul competed four of 17 pass attempts for 119 yards. Petrolia grabbed one interception.
