Submissions for Clay County Outdoors photo contest now accepted

Megan Morrow, 12, of Bellevue, was the youth winner in the 2012 contest.

The second annual Clay County Outdoors magazine photo contest, sponsored by the Henrietta and Clay County Chamber of Commerce and the Clay County Pioneer Sentinel, is underway.

This year’s contest will focus on Clay County’s ranching and cowboy heritage.

The 2013 edition of Clay County Outdoors will feature the annual Pioneer Reunion and Rodeo. But photographers are not limited to just Pioneer Reunion photos. Editors of the magazine are also looking for pictures of ranchers and cowboys at work and at play, western or agricultural architecture and farm scenes. Photos must be taken in Clay County.

The contest again will be divided into adult (17 and older) and youth (16 and younger) divisions.

Clay County Outdoors asks that all photos be in vertical format, to fit pages. Digital photos must be submitted as high-resolution originals in no smaller than 775-by-1,000 pixels, and as a .jpeg file. Photos from digital cameras rated at 5 megapixels and higher will meet the requirement, but cell phone cameras most likely will not.

To enter, e-mail digital photos to publisher@pioneer-sentinel.com.

For photographers who shoot film, submit an 8-by-10 inch prints by mail to The Pioneer Sentinel, P.O. Box 70, Henrietta, Texas 76365.

Contest submissions will be accepted until midnight Oct. 31.

The contest drew more than 50 entries in its first year, and more than 200 votes were cast. Cheryl Jackson of Henrietta won the contest with a photo of two whitetail deer running through a pasture. Her photo was feature on the cover of the magazine. Megan Morrow, 12, of Bellevue, won the youth division with a photo of a horse in the snow.
