George M. Blackmon of Bowie


George Monroe Blackmon, 73, of Bowie, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, in Bowie.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Bowie, with Scott Melton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.

Mr. Blackmon was born Sept. 8, 1939 in Bowie to Charles and Ruth Hodges Blackmon. He was a 1957 graduate of Bowie High School and a 1962 graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in agronomy. He married Nancy Spears on June 16, 1962. He served on the Bowie ISD Board of Trustees and was a member of the Montague County Livestock Committee. He also served on the Bowie Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. He was involved in ranching and farming in Texas and Costa Rica. He is an organ and tissue donor through UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Blackmon of Bowie; two sons, Alan Blackmon and his wife Michelle of Huntsville, Ala.; and David Blackmon of Bowie; and four grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the Bellevue Ex-Students Association Scholarship Fund in care of Kathy Gregory, 601 W. Wichita St., Henrietta, Texas 76365.
