Mike McDonald, executive director of the Clay-Jack County USDA Farm Service Agency, reminds dairy producers that the deadline to sign-up for Milk Income Loss Contract benefits is Sept. 30. Legislation has not been enacted to extend the MILC program past Sept. 30 through the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008.
MILC compensates dairy producers when domestic milk prices fall below a specified level.
“It is important that dairy producers provide final production evidence and any supporting documentation for eligible months that MILC was in effect by Nov. 1, 2012,” said McDonald.
Changes to the dairy operation start-month must be designated on FSA’s form, “CCC-580M – Milk Income Loss Contract (MILC) Modification.”
