Henrietta’s JV Bearcats defeated Rider’s JV gold squad Thursday night, 40-28. The Bearcats built a 32-6 lead before Rider scored 3 touchdowns in the second half.
Leo Hunter opened the scoring with a one-yard run following a 40-yard pass from Riley Watson to Cody Fletcher. The Bearcats scored again in the first quarter on a 28-yard reverse pass from Fletcher to Nick Offield. The Bearcats jumped to a 20-0 first-quarter lead when Watson hit Offield on a 36-yard pass. Offield fumbled on the play but recovered the ball in the end zone for the touchdown. Watson ran in the two-point conversion.
Fletcher opened the scoring in the second half with a 52-yard run. On the next drive Watson hit Bryce Schroeder on a 37-yard pass to set up a Watson five-yard touchdown run. The final Bearcat score came from 68-yards out when Fletcher broke loose on a play up the middle. Chance Edgett had a key block on the play to help open up the hole.
The offensive line of Edgett, Logan Carter, Connor Duncan, Kirkland Hoff and Zach Bloodworth had an excellent game.
Carter helped lead the defense with a fumble recovery and several tackles for losses. Fletcher had an interception to go along with several tackles. Other defensive standouts were Leo Hunter and Jimmy Jones.
