Petrolia falls to 1-1 with 23-0 loss to Collinsville

One week after opening its season with an overtime win against Cross Plains, Petrolia found itself entangled Collinsville’s scoring machine for a 23-0 loss.  The machine’s name is John Lewis.

Lewis scored three times against Petrolia, putting the first numbers on the board in the first quarter on a two-yard run. Lewis struck again in the third with a three-yard run and in the fourth quarter with a 66-yard scamper. On his first strike, Lewis also added the two-point conversion, and kicked the extra point to cap his fourth-quarter score. Collinsville added a two-point conversion in the third quarter on a pass from from Hayden Smith to Tanner Petska.

Will Morath led Petrolia’s offensive effort with 61 yards on 14 carries. The Pirates finished with 120 rushing yards on 40 attempts. Petrolia attempted to throw the ball four times – all were incomplete.

Collinsville finished with 163 yards rushing on 39 carries, and passed for 60 yards on four of nine attempts. Petrolia’s defense picked off one interception.

Friday, Petrolia (1-1) hosts Archer City (0-3).
