New stock producer moves slack performance to Wednesday night

A barrel racer competes in Wednesday night’s slack. The overflow performance was moved to Wednesday on a request from new stock producer Champion Rodeo Company.

The Pioneer Reunion Rodeo has a new stock contractor this year, and with the change came a scheduling shift.

Champion Rodeo Company, owned by Bob Champion of Buffalo, Texas, takes the place of Terry Walls Rodeo Company. Champion chose to have the slack performance, for events that have too many contestants to compete in the nightly rodeo performances, on Wednesday night. In years past, slack was held after the Saturday night rodeo performance.

Slack events included barrel racing, steer wrestling and calf roping.

Regular rodeo performances are set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m.

General admission tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-10. Children 5 and under get in for free. Tickets are available at the gate.

The Clay County Pioneer Association will hold rodeo dances featuring Rick Wylie on Friday night and Jake Hooker and the Outsiders on Saturday. Dances start at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
