Since 1971, the Henrietta and Clay County Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the sale of souvenir buttons for the Clay County Pioneer Reunion. Each button, except for the first few, feature a design unique to the year.
This year, in honor of the parade theme “Classic Literature,” the chamber has issued two button designs, each featuring a pioneer author who penned important books about Clay County.
Katherine Christian Douthitt wrote “Romance and Dim Trails”, and J.P. Earle wrote “History of Clay County and Northwest Texas.” Both tell the stories of early settlers to the area and the early development of Clay County.
Buttons are available for $1 each at the chamber office, First National Bank of Byers (Byers and Henrietta), Wells Fargo, Legend Bank, as well as other locations in downtown Henrietta.
The chamber has ordered extra buttons this year so that collectors can purchase both designs. Collectors who are missing one or more years can contact the chamber of commerce at (940) 538-5261 to see if designs from past year’s are available.
