Residents ready for Reuinion

By Ashley Crownover

Pioneer Reunion Week is here! We are excited about this year’s festivities.

We have a few noteworthy activities happening at Henrietta Care Center. Thursday the 13th at 1:30 p.m. we will have our first annual Henrietta Care Center rodeo. Bring the whole family and join the Henrietta Care Center residents for a fun-filled kickoff to the annual Clay County Pioneer Reunion and Rodeo, then head to town for the Cowboy Parade.  Projected activities include wheel chair barrel racing, dummy roping, wild cow milking and stick horse barrel racing for the kids. We will also have real live horses! Championship trophy “buckles” and other prizes will be awarded. Refreshments will be provided, and we will have special celebrity guests. Please come by and join us and make this event a success for our residents!

Friday morning, the residents will be on the west side of the square to watch the parade. This is a very exciting outing for our residents each year. They absolutely love watching the parade, and they also love getting to visit with community members. If you pass by us on the square, please take a minute to say hello.  Also, remember that we have an annual barbecue lunch on the Friday of Pioneer Reunion at noon. The public is welcome to stop by and join us. This meal is always a great treat for the staff and residents at Henrietta Care Center, and we love to see other smiling faces. We look forward to seeing those of you that can make it by to enjoy some delicious food and good conversation.

The sing-along that Martha Groves and friends are hosting for residents debuts on Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. Thanks Martha for your willingness to take a step forward by getting this group of friends together for our residents. Our volunteers truly bless our home.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5401 hosted the August monthly birthday party. Thank you to Lois Whitley, Shirley Visintainer, Nickie McCarly and Bobbie Gilmore.  These wonderful ladies brought delicious homemade peach cobbler, birthday cake and angel food cake for the residents to enjoy. Those honored at the birthday party were Terry Alene Wood, Charlene Taylor, Sine McMurry, Rolin (RL) Higdon and Alice Brown. Sine McMurry celebrated her 101st birthday! How awesome is that! We were glad to see her daughter, Judy, at the birthday party.  Happy birthday to each of you!

Lucille Brothers donated plastic sacks for the Country Store; we appreciate this donation. Thank you to the Senior Citizens Center for donations made to Henrietta Care Center. Doris Durham donated several items for the Country Store including a daily devotional calendar, several jewelry pieces and deodorant. Doris also calls Bingo on Tuesday for the residents. Charles McKey donated puzzles to Henrietta Care Center. We are very thankful for your donation. Melvin Long donated a wheelchair to us. It will be very useful, and we are gratified by this donation. Thank you again. Last but not least, thank you to Jeannie Burris for donating lotion to our country store. The residents will definitely love having the option to purchase this lotion with their bingo bucks. Thanks again to each of you!

Have a wonderful week, and we hope to see you soon!
