Lillian Vale Knight Holland, 90, of Petrolia, passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at the First Baptist Church of Petrolia. Burial will be in the Petrolia Cemetery, under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mrs. Holland was born Dec. 16, 1921 in Coleman to Luther Johnson and Lela Carrie Knight. She married W.M. (Bill) Holland on Sept. 17, 1939 in Burkett. A job with Dean Brothers Oil Company brought this couple along with their first child, Billie Vale, to Clay County on July 4, 1941. They expanded from a trucking company to oil leases, while working the land and raising cattle. She was an active member of Eastern Star since 1952, serving as Worthy Matron, Conductress or any other station. In 1991, Mrs. Holland was honored to be named Duchess of Petrolia in the 60th annual Clay County Pioneer Reunion.

She is preceded in death by her husband, W.M. (Bill) Holland; one daughter, Billie Vale Holland Smith; one son, Douglas Dwain Holland; and three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Paula Swenson and husband John of Petrolia, and Dr. Vicki Holland; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Clay County Memorial Hospital, 310 W. South Street, Henrietta, Texas 76365; Petrolia Cemetery, P.O. Box 244, Petrolia, Texas 76377; or the Petrolia Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 234, Petrolia, Texas 76377.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 6-8 p.m.
