Paradise had Henrietta on the ropes at halftime Friday night, but the Bearcats came out of the locker room swinging, and managed a 14-12 win over the Panthers.
With the victory, Henrietta improves to 1-1 on the season, following last week’s loss to Callisburg.
Paradise took a 12-0 lead going into intermission with a pair of runs from Josh McDowell. The halfback scored on second quarter runs of 10 and seven yards, respectively. Paradise’s point-after kick failed on the first score. Paradise tried to make up the point on its second touchdown with a two-point conversion, which also failed.
Henrietta narrowed its gap in the third quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run from Dalton Day. Day’s strike shifted the momentum of the game, and in the fourth, lead rusher Ethan Cantrell scored from 16 yards away. Sophomore kicker Jameson Dowell was accurate on both extra-point attempts, keep the Bearcats out of overtime.
Cantrell finished with 66 of Henrietta’s 109 yards rushing on 14 carries. Henrietta ran the ball 35 times. Quarterback Conner Fletcher connected on two of eight pass attempts for 39 yards, including a 38-yard strike to receiver Tyler Coleman.
Paradise finished with 245 yards rushing on 41 carries and 80 yards passing on nine of 25 attempts.
Henrietta plays its first home game Sept. 14, when it hosts Bowie.
