Lady Cats struggle at ‘Volleypalooza’ despite strong stats

Henrietta’s varsity Lady Cats struggled at the Peaster Volleypalooza volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday of last week, but turned out impressive stats despite strong competition.

Friday, the Lady Cats took three losses in pool play, falling to Peaster, 11-25, 24-26; Krum, 19-25, 22-25; and Brownwood, 12-25, 20-25.

Henrietta opened Friday’s bracket with a 14-25, 18-25 loss to Liberty Christian, and fell in round two to Krum, 23-25, 23-25.

Anni Scholl led the Henrietta offensive attack with 25 kills and two aces in all games combined. Scholl had 20 digs. Joyana Zamzow finished with 16 kills, four aces and 11 digs. Addison Wade finished with 13 kills, while Taylor Bennett and Sierra Burkhart had 12 kills each.

At setter, Katie Halsell had 154 assists. Halsell added six aces from the service line and 11 digs on defense. Kailey Kirk added 128 set assists and 11 digs, and Cassie Pickett finished with 26 digs.

Annelise Sauer was 100 percent from the service line throughout the tournament, finished with three aces. In the libero position, Sauer had 53 digs.

Tuesday, the Lady Cats travel to Vernon, where the JV will start at 4:30. Saturday, Sept. 1, the varsity team play host to Archer City and Christ Academy at 10 a.m.
