Nancy Griswold Cox of Dallas

Nancy Rutha Griswold Cox passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, in Dallas.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21 in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Don C. Moore, friend of the family, officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Henrietta, under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mrs. Cox was born Oct. 14, 1923 in Wichita Falls to Russell Stewart and Nancy Ruth (Caudle) Griswold. She graduated from Henrietta High School and Business College in Dallas. In 1944, she married Henry Peyton Cox. They were married for more than 50 years until his death in 1994. They raised their family in Wichita Falls where she was active in many activities supporting their children. She worked elections in Wichita County and was employed as a bookkeeper, nurse, office manager and mental health specialist. She also taught China painting classes. After 1968, they lived in Monahans, Peyote and Arlington. She moved to Dallas in 2010 to be near her children. She was proud of having written “Our Family,” a genealogical report and collection of stories of the Cox and Griswold families.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Shires of Midland; Clinton McCoy of Dallas, and John Griswold of Breckenridge.

Survivors include a son, Hammon Cox and wife Jean of Royse City; a daughter, Wynell Cox Hosch and husband Jimmy of Dallas; three children; and four great-grandchildren.
