Petrolia VFD welcomes new brush truck

Petrolia VFD Captain Bill Almasy with the department’s newest truck.

The Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department christened brush truck no.1232 Saturday with an open house at the fire station. The truck is a refurbished army surplus 6×6 troop carrier that was bought for $7,000 as government surplus with grants from the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation/Volunteer Fire Department Funds and wildfire disaster assistance funds.

PVFD members worked for two months performing $16,000 in modifications, which included paint stripping, repainting, welding, and pump installation. The new tank holds 1,000 gallons of water. The truck replaces one that burned during last year’s fires. It has already seen action twice.
