We had a multitude of fun activities during the month of May.

We began our celebrations on May 4 with a Cinco de Mayo party.

The week of May 6-12 was Nurses’ Week, Hospital Week, and Teacher Appreciation Week.  Henrietta Care Center is grateful for all of our wonderful nurses in addition to our spectacular hospital. We are also very thankful for all of the present teachers as well as our residents who are retired teachers. Teachers, nurses, and hospitals all make our world a better place. Thank you all.

Henrietta Care Center had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. The Cowboy Mission Outreach Women’s Group came out on Friday the 11th to start off our wonderful weekend of celebrating. They brought roses, cards from the youth group, and bookmarks from the children’s group. Each resident was hand-delivered these Mother’s Day gifts. They also provided an arrangement of roses for the Henrietta Care Center staff that are displayed at the nurses’ station. They are beautiful. Next, we had our Mother’s Day Shower on the 13th. We decorated our dining room with baby shower decorations. The residents were able to reminisce about when they first became mothers. Thanks to our local thrift shop, The Treasure House, for allowing us to borrow baby items such as blankets, cloths, booties, and shoes to use for decorations. We also want to thank Grace Temple Baptist for bringing book marks for our mothers. Thank you to everyone who came out to and made the residents feel special and loved. We hope all had a great day as well. God bless each and every one of the mothers in Henrietta and the surrounding areas.

The 13th also marked the beginning of National Nursing Home Week. The theme this year was Celebrating the Journey, and we celebrated by pretending to journey to a different place each day. Monday the 14th, our journey was to Mars. We celebrated our journey to Mars by watching the movie ET and playing flying saucer and alien games. Tuesday, we journeyed to the farm. We ate popcorn and played Bingo followed by front porch sitting and drinking lemonade and playing games. We ended our journey to the farm with barn music by Dan Webb. The residents had such a grand time listening to the music, and we are enormously grateful that Dan came out to entertain us. Then, we journeyed to the casino on Wednesday and played blackjack and dice. We also had our Staff Appreciation Banquet on the 16th. The Vice President of our company, Andrew Hall, came to Henrietta and prepared mouth-watering brisket and chicken as our main dishes. We also had potato salad, coleslaw, bread, watermelon, and brownies. The food was all delicious. Following our meal, the executive director of Henrietta Care Center, Debbie Brewer, presented employee awards. Congratulations to our Employee of the Year, Paula Koetter, and our Care Provider of the Year, Cassie Sherrill. On Thursday, we took a journey to Paris. We had a perfume contest and Eiffel tower fun. We watched A Love Story and had a candlelit dinner with wine and cheese. On the last day of National Nursing Home Week, we journeyed to the circus. We celebrated this day with a pet show, circus games, and a potluck lunch featuring circus foods.

On the 25th, we had our monthly birthday party. At our May party, we celebrated the birthdays of Kathryne Day on the 10th, Annabeth Schwaesdall on the 11th, and Frances Coker on the 19th.

Since the weather is nice, we plan on spending more time outdoors during the month of June. Feel free to stop by and enjoy some lemonade or another cold drink with us on the porch. Please check our Facebook page for a detailed calendar of events.

As always, we thank our weekly volunteers. You make all of our endeavors successful. Our home is only complete because you are a part of it. We truly appreciate all that you do for us.

The residents and staff at Henrietta Care Center would like to welcome Lowell Lynn to our facility. We hope you enjoy your stay with us, and we look forward to you becoming part of our family. Friends and family, remember you are welcome to stop by at anytime to visit.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jane McRay as she is recovering from medical procedures. We are praying that God will comfort you and watch you during this time.

We would like to thank Kathy Steele for donating jewelry for use in our Country Store. We appreciate having different items available. Our residents’ wish list for the store includes personal items, body sprays, decorative pillows, room clocks, radios, DVDs, CDs, and costume jewelry as well as anything else you think a resident might enjoy. Thank you very much for your support.

Thank you to Mrs. Wetzel for donating crocheted throws to Henrietta Care Center. The residents absolutely love them. Your thoughtfulness is truly appreciated.

This month’s potluck meal will be a Luau. Our menu will include Hawaiian ham, tiki carrot salad, tropical fruit salad, pineapple upside down cake, and frozen drinks. We are looking forward to this event, and we hope you can make it out to join us on Friday, June 8 at noon!

Have a wonderful week.
