Granvel W. Covington of Wichita Falls


Granvel Wayne Covington, 91, of Wichita Falls, died Monday, May 28, 2012.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Crestview Memorial Park with Gerry Covington, Stacey Sanchez and Melissa Gound officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Mr. Covington was born June 28, 1920, in Buffalo Springs to Tiff and Carrie (Shults) Covington. He served with the U.S. Army in Guadalcanal during World War II. He worked in general maintenance prior to his retirement from the Civil Service at Sheppard Air Force Base. He and wife Elbert Ree Covington were married for 58 years. For 13 years prior to her death in 2000, he spent every day caring for her in the nursing home.

He is preceded in death by his wife Elbert Ree Covington, in 2000.

He is survived by a son, Gerry Wayne Covington and wife Treva of Wichita Falls; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
