With a 2-0 win over Seymour in the Region I final series Thursday and Saturday, Petrolia’s Lady Pirate softball team will make its first appearance in the state tournament.
With Thursday’s opener a pitcher’s duel, Saturday was a day for hitters as the Lady Pirates swung away for a 14-7 final.
Petrolia opened by outpacing Seymour 3-1 in the first and second innings, and added four runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Pirates scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth innings, but Seymour managed to save itself from a run-rule loss with a four-run sixth inning. The Lady Pirates added one more in the seventh.
“They did what I asked, and that was to hit the ball hard,” said Lady Pirate Head Coach DeDe Gray.
Petrolia opened the series Thursday with a 2-1 win.
The state semifinal games are set for 9 a.m. and noon Wednesday, May 30. The state final is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, May 31.
More information, and stats from the Region I final will be published as it becomes available.
