Lady Pirates one step away from state softball tournament

With the state softball tournament in reach, Petrolia’s Lady Pirates will face Seymour Thursday and Saturday in Graham, in an effort to extend what has been a nip-and-tuck postseason drive.

In yet another series won by a single run, Petrolia defeated Haskell Friday to sweep the regional semifinal series and advance to the final.

The Lady Pirates tallied 18 hits for 10 runs to beat the Maidens, 10-9.

Petrolia held a 7-0 lead to close the fourth inning, but Haskell fought back and in the six, narrowed the Lady Pirate lead to two, 10-8. Haskell added one run in the seventh.

Katie Cummings, Allie Ablia and Alaina Anderson each had four hits on five at-bats to lead the Lady Pirates. Cummings had three RBIs. Kirsten Kenyon also had three RBIs, on three hits.

Thursday, Petrolia earned a 7-5 win over Haskell.

Seymour defeated Albany 2-1 in a three-game series last week.

Game 1 of the regional final series begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The series continues with game 2 at 2 p.m. Saturday, with game 3, if necessary, 30 minutes after.
