With timely hits from Katie Cummings and Alaina Anderson, Petrolia’s Lady Pirates swept Windthorst in the regional quarterfinal series Friday night and Saturday.
Cummings laid down a solo homerun in the seventh inning of game one to lift Petrolia over Windthorst 9-8.
Windthorst opened with a three-run lead in the first inning.
In the third, Petrolia Anderson batted in Mallory Ridinger to put the Lady Pirates on the scoreboard. Cummings followed in the fourth inning with a hit to deep left center field, sparking a Petrolia comeback. The Lady Pirates went on to score seven in the fourth inning for an 8-3 lead.
Windthorst came back with four runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to tie the game.
Saturday, with Petrolia down by one, Anderson hit to deep center field in the seventh for an RBI and the win, 3-2.
Petrolia took a 1-0 lead but Windthorst fought back in the top of the seventh, 2-1.
In the bottom of the inning, Sidney Mobley got on base with a Windthorst error. Bunts from Ridinger and Jamie Kowalick advanced Mobley to score, tying the game at two runs each. Anderson’s big hit scored Ridinger.
Saturday’s game was originally set to be played in Henrietta, but was moved to Holliday to a wet field.
Petrolia faces Haskell in a three-game regional semifinal series in Graham. Game one is schedule for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Game two is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m., with game three, if needed, to follow 30 minutes after.
