Katie Cummings laid down a solo homerun in the seventh inning Friday night to lift Petrolia over Windthorst in game of the Region II softball quarterfinal.
Windthorst opened with a three-run lead in the first inning.
In the third, Petrolia’s Alaina Anderson batted in Mallory Ridinger to put the Lady Pirates on the scoreboard. Cummings followed in the fourth inning with a hit to deep left center field, sparking a Petrolia comeback. The Lady Pirates went on to score seven in the fourth inning for an 8-3 lead.
Windthorst came back with four runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to tie the game.
The three-game series continues today at Henrietta. Game two starts at 1 p.m. with game three, iff needed, to began 30 minutes after.

The Petrolia baseball season came to an end Friday night in a one-game playoff to Gorman, 10-2.
