Cooler temperatures on tap through the weekend

Just when it looked like Clay County was in for an early onset of a blistering summer, cooler temperatures have settled in for at least the next few days, according to the National Weather Service in Norman. And with it may come some much-needed rain.

The NWS seven day forecast, provided by Larry Duncan of Clay County Sky Warn, calls for temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s through Sunday with scattered and isolated thunderstorms.

A front that has brought cloudy, cooler weather will remain to the south, along with the showers and, but may spread north into the southern part of the area. According to the NWS, precipitation chances diminish temporarily after Tuesday, then a slow-moving low currently over Nevada and Arizona will move toward the southern plains and bring more precipitation chances beginning Thursday night through Friday.

The forecast is as follows:

  • Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 71. North northeast wind between 7 and 10 mph.
  • Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. North northwest wind between 6 and 10 mph.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. North northwest wind between 6 and 11 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 53. East wind between 7 and 10 mph becoming calm.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.
  • Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59.
  • Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 76.
  • Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57.
  • Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55.
  • Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56.
  • Monday: Sunny, with a high near 80.

Henrietta has received 17.15 inches of rain in 2012. Temperatures were in the high 80s and 90s until Monday, when Henrietta had a high temperature of 79 degrees. Henrietta reached 97 degrees on Saturday, May 5.
