Dorothy ‘Bama’ Whitsitt of Jacksboro


Dorothy “Bama” Argabright Whitsitt, 93, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Memorial Christian Church in Jacksboro, under the direction of Coker Funeral Home of Jacksboro.

Mrs. Whitsitt was born Feb. 1, 1919 in Vashti to Clyde and Edna Argabright. She was married to Loran Cuma Whitsitt for 70 years before his death in 2009. She was a homemaker, gardener, seamstress, Girl Scout leader and store clerk. She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church for 73 years, serving in many capacities including Sunday school teacher.

She is preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Gwen St. Clair and husband Terry, and Virginia Shanafelt and husband Sam; a sister, Mary Stevens; a brother, Jay Argabright and wife Wanda; a sister-in-law Lucille Blasingame and husband John; three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
