Students advancing to state in UIL academic competitions


Henrietta students qualifying for state UIL competition are Miranda Flores, Braden Hinkle, Matthew Mitchell, Justin Caldwell and Trevor Roop.

On Saturday, April 21, the UIL Regional Academic meet was held in Stephenville.  Five Henrietta High School students qualified for the State Meet in Austin on May 28 and 29.

The Spelling and Vocabulary team won the regional championship earning a state berth with a score of 269, beating Holliday High School by 30 points.  Team members include Miranda Flores, Matthew Mitchell, Justin Caldwell, and Braden Hinkle.  Flores, who won the district championship a month ago, won the regional championship as well, marking her as the top student out of over 250 competitors.  Also placing at regionals was Mitchell with the third place bronze medal, and Justin Caldwell with the sixth place medal.

The Literary Criticism team of Trevor Roop, Katelyn Suneson, Emma Fletcher, and Krystal DeLucio placed third in the region.  Roop won the third place bronze medal, and the right to compete at state.
