Midway students advance to state in PTA Reflections program

Midway ISD students participating in the PTA Reflections program were honored with an awards banquet Monday night.

Midway PTA held its annual Reflections Award Banquet Monday, April 16, in the school cafeteria. Awards for photography, literature, visual arts, music, and choreography were given to students who placed in the contest.

Winners at the local level advanced to state. In the state competition, Layten Graham earned honorable mention in Primary photography, and Christian Coker received an award of merit in primary visual arts.

Each discipline is divided into four categories by grade level: Primary, Kindergarten through second grade; intermediate, grades 3-5; middle, grades 6-8; and senior, grades 9-12.

School results are as follows:

Dance choreography, primary – First, Gaige Graham, advanced to state.

Photography, primary – First, Layten Graham, advanced to state, honorable mention at state; second, Gaige Graham; third, Christian Coker, advanced to state.

Visual arts, primary – First, Christian Coker, advanced to state, award of merit at state; second, Kamryn Wyatt, advanced to state; third, Bodee Franke; alternates, Brooke Campbell and Payton Looney.

Literature, primary – First, Hank Banner; second, Layten Graham, advanced to state.

Film production, primary – First, Layten Graham, advanced to state.

Visual arts, intermediate First, Reagan Campbell, advanced to state; second,  Kiley Smith, advanced to state; third, Tuff Banner; alternate, Holton Leach.

Photography, intermediate – First Heather Mathias, advanced to state; second, Allyson Laude; third, Makana Norton, advanced to state.

Literature, intermediate – First, Allyson Laude, advanced to state; second Hailey Talley; third, Holton Leach; alternate, Makana Norton.

Musical composition, intermediate First, Allyson Laude, advanced to state.

Literature, middle – First, Mikayla Graham, advanced to state; second, Morgan Williams; third, Britney Crye; alternate, Ethan Franke.

Photography, middle – First, Mikayla Graham, advanced to state; second, Mikayla Graham; third, Dawn Mathias, advanced to state.

Visual arts, middle First, Sarah Campbell, advanced to state; second,  Jordan Looney, advanced to state; third, Mary Nall; alternates, Austin Van Pelt, Britney Crye. 

Film production, middle – First, Mikayla Graham, advanced to state.

Musical composition, senior First, Alan Self, advanced to state.

Visual arts, senior First, Aimee Spearman, advanced to state; second, Ashley Spearman; third, Austin Thorn; alternates, Mishka Danielikova, advanced to state, and Larry Hilberts.

Reflections is a Texas PTA program for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. The program is designed to encouraged students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts.
