Women’s Club approves officers


Byers Women’s Club held its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9 at the Byers Community Center. President Tina Van Deventer called the meeting to order followed by prayer and pledge led by Chaplain Nell Schaffner. Secretary Kathy Westmoreland called roll and read the minutes of the previous meeting. Treasurer Ava Lou Holmes gave the financial report.

Plans for a basket to be raffled at June Fest were discussed and greeting card fronts to be sent to pediatric patients at St. Jude’s Hospital were collected. A donation to Byers Improvement Group to help purchase flowers for street containers was approved as well as a committment from members to assist BIG if they have a bake sale to raise further money.

A new slate of officers for next year was read and approved. They will be installed at the next meeting at noon, May 8, at a covered dish luncheon to be held at the home of Kathy Westmoreland. After adjournment, refreshments were served by Pat Lawrence, Wanda Jean Elrod, and Toni Fransen.

Ten members were present including Van Deventer, Schaffner, Westmoreland, Holmes, Lawrence, Elrod, Fransen, Allene Schaffner,
Jonnie Barnhill, and Judy Wade.
