Henrietta battled back from a 5-2 second inning deficit Friday night to improve its district standing with an 11-8 win in City View.
With the win, the Bearcats are 6-4 in District 9-2A, and headed for a playoff berth.
Henrietta held City View scoreless in the third through sixth innings. The Bearcats scored three in the third inning to tie the game at 5 each, and scored three more in the fourth and two in the fifth. Henrietta’s final run came in the top of the seventh inning. The Bearcats finished with 11 hits, and took advantage of five City View errors.
City View had six hits, while Henrietta committed two errors.
Bearcats Korben Allen and Coty McKelvey tripled. McKelvey went three-for-three. Allen, McKelvey, Conner Fletcher, Ben Fletcher, Philip Davis, Nick Powell and Aaron Whitehead finished with one RBI each. The Bearcats advanced runners on nine stolen bases. Ethan Cantrell, Davis, Powell and McKelvey stole two bases each. Conner Fletcher stole one base.
Ben Fletcher earned the win from the mound in 6.2 innings of work. He faced 33 batters for 12 strikeouts, and threw 79 strikes on 138 pitches. Joe Dell Williams got the save, facing City Views final batter for a groundout.
With two regular season games remaining, the Bearcats are 15-9-2. Tuesday, April 17, the team hosts Holliday at 6 p.m., and travels to Alvord on Friday, April 20 for a 7 p.m. start.
