FFA students qualify for state livestock, dairy judging competitions

Henrietta FFA members J.D. Franke, Conner Kirby, Klayton Hoff, Ben Page, Kassidy Beeler, Ryan Crafton, Kolton Beeler and Parker West have qualified for state competition in Career Development Events.

The Henrietta FFA Livestock Evaluation Team and the Dairy Cattle Team both qualified for the Texas FFA State Career Development Events.

To qualify for the state event, teams had to be in the top 15 percent statewide.

The Dairy Team finished third out of 52 teams in Area IV. Members are Connor Kirby, Klayton Hoff, J.D. Franke, and Ryan Crafton. Kirby was third high individual out of 205 contestants. The Dairy Team will compete at Tarleton State University on Thursday, April 19.

The Livestock team finished seventh out of 67 teams. Members of the team are Kassidy Beeler, Kolton Beeler, Ben Page and Parker West. The Livestock team will compete in the state contest on the campus of Texas A&M University on Saturday, May 5.

Career Development Events build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student’s technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. CDEs answer the question, “When will I use this knowledge in the real world?”
