Bearcats give up early lead to Alvord hitters

Despite an early lead, Henrietta’s varsity bearcats were outmuscled in district 9-2A play by Alvord Tuesday, 14-7.

Henrietta took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two runs in the first and one run later, but couldn’t keep up the Alvord bats. Alvord scored two in the third and two in the fourth, while Henrietta added one to tie the score at four-all.

Alvord’s biggest inning came in the fifth, scoring four runs. The Bulldogs added three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, while Henrietta scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth inning.

Alvord finished with 14 hits to Henrietta’s 10, and committed two errors to six from the Bearcats.

Zach Byers put up three hits for the Bearcats, finishing with three RBI’s. Byers also had three stolen bases. Connor Fletcher, Korben Allen and Aaron Whitehead had one RBI each. Fletcher’s RBI came on a double. Allen stole one base. Joe Dell Williams was hit by a pitch.

Ben Fletcher took the loss on the mound. Fletcher 29 batters in five innings before Philip Davis relieved him. Davis faced 15 batters. Ben Fletcher and Davis had three strikeouts each.

The Bearcats travel to Burkburnett for non-district play Saturday at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, Henrietta hosts district foe Nocona for a 6 p.m. start.
