Sadie Davis, 101, of Henrietta


Sadie Davis, 101, of Henrietta, passed away on Monday, March 19, in Henrietta.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, at Hope Cemetery in Henrietta with Rev. Randy Osborn, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Henrietta, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mrs. Davis was born on Feb. 12, 1911 in Ethel, Ark., to Thomas Jefferson and Lydia “Lida” Bertha Criswell. She migrated with her family to east Texas in the early 1930’s and eventually settling in Clay County. She married W.C. “Red” Davis on Nov. 7, 1936 in Henrietta. A resident of Clay County for more than 76 years, she has lived in Henrietta since 1954.

She is the second successive maternal generation of her family to live beyond 101 years. Her mother, Lida Criswell, celebrated her 101st birthday in Henrietta on April 14, 1988.

She is preceded in death by her husband, W.C. ‘Red” Davis; daughter Katherine Lee Duckett; step-son Withers Clay “J.R.” Davis, Jr.; step-grandson Rusty Davis; and great-grandchild Collin Ross Sanderson; half-brother Albert Levi Lee McSwain; sister Neoma Belle Criswell Gillispie; brothers Alfred P. Criswell, Hallie Jefferson Brown Criswell, Lucious Hanna Criswell, James Braxton JB Criswell and Hubbard Ross Criswell.

She is survived by a brother, Roy Wayne Criswell of Bellevue; three daughters, Gertrude Inez Foster and husband Ted of Wichita Falls, Hallie Faye Gutierres and husband Jesse of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Alice Lorene Bloodworth of Henrietta.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta on Tuesday, March 20, from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m..
