Band earns superior rating, UIL sweepstakes award


The Henrietta High School band earned the sweepstakes award after receiving a Superior rating at the UIL Concert and Sight Rating contest in Decatur on Feb. 29.

The Henrietta High School Band received a one (superior) rating in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at Decatur High School, and achieved the sweepstakes award as well.

The sweepstakes award is given to each band that earns a superior rating in all three contest events (marching, concert and sight-reading).

The band’s concert program included “Big Four March” by Karl King and arranged by Swearingen, “Our Kingsland Spring” by Samuel Hazo, and “Cajun Folk Songs” by Frank Ticheli.

The band also won the sweepstakes award in in the 2009-2010 school year.

“We are extremely proud of all the students hard work this year and would like to say a special thanks to our school administration, teachers, and parents,” said Band Director Kenneth Gilbreath.
