A Henrietta man was injured in Petrolia Friday, March 2, when his vehicle rolled over and caught fire.

The accident happened at about 4:10 p.m. on Waggoner Road, just west of the town. Jerry Glenn Barger, 69, was traveling west on the gravel road in a 1996 Dodge pickup when he lost control of the vehicle. The driver’s side tires slide off into the ditch. According to an accident report, Barger reacted with a hard right turn to bring the pickup out of the ditch, causing the vehicle to slide sideways and into the opposite ditch. The pickup rolled over onto a fence-line gate owned by Johnnie Simmons of Petrolia.

Barger escaped the vehicle before the wreckage burst into flames.

He was transported by ambulance to Clay County Memorial Hospital and released the following day.
