Car strikes tractor-trailer on Hwy. 287 Tuesday

Richard Lynn McBay of Iowa Park was northbound on Hwy. 287 Tuesday when his car struck a tractor-trailer rig. No injuries were reported.

An Iowa Park man struck the back of a tractor-trailer rig on Hwy. 287, south of Henrietta, Tuesday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

The accident occurred at about 3:50 p.m.

Richard Lynn McBay, 60, of Iowa Park, was traveling north on Hwy. 287 near New York Road in a 2000 Kia Spectra when he struck the lower bumper of a trailer in from of him.

The driver of the 2009 Peterbilt, Kenneth Wayne Dixson, 53, of Indiana, said he felt a bump from behind, but did not know he had been hit until he saw the car trail off behind him.

McBay, an oil field worker returning home from work, told Trooper Chad Harden that he had looked down to change CDs when he struck the trailer. Harden said McBay was administered, and passed, a Breathalyzer and had no narcotic medications in the vehicle that might have caused him to fall asleep.

McBay was ticketed for failure to control speed.
