In seven innings of work, Korben Allen produced 15 strikeouts to lead the Bearcats in a 4-2 win against Nocona in Tuesday night’s district opener.
Consistency was Allen’s strong suit, throwing 70 strikes on 93 pitches. Against 25 batters, he threw 21 first-pith strikes.
The two teams were knotted at one run each after the first inning, and 2-2 after the fourth. Henrietta pulled ahead by one in the fifth inning, and added its fourth run of the night in the sixth. Henrietta outhit Nocona 5-3, and committed three errors.
Zach Byers doubled for the Bearcats, while Joe Dell Williams finished with a pair of singles for one RBI. Allen also had an RBI.
Philip Davis advanced to first after being struck by a pitch. He went on to steal two bases. Nick Powell also finished with two stolen bases and Williams took one.
Beginning Thursday, Henrietta will compete in the Bowie tournament. The Bearcats face Jacksboro at 9 a.m.
