Relay teams dominate meet


The seventh and eight grade boys posted second place finishes at the Lindsay Track Meet on Monday, Feb. 27. This was the first official meet of the season for the Bearcats. In the seventh grade division, the Bearcats fell four points shy of a team championship behind Alvord while the eighth graders were 10 points behind Krum.

The Bearcats dominated all three relay races. Kandon Bennett, Coy Patterson, Mason Hanson and Reid Latham combined to bring home the gold in the 400 and 800 meter relays with times of 52.51 seconds and 1 minute, 51.6 seconds respectively. The 1600 meter relay team of Kevin Morales, Patterson, Hanson and Latham ran a 4:14.28 for a first place finish, 10 seconds faster than Collinsville.

Other gold medal performances came from Triston Rodgers in the discus with a throw of 80 feet, 9 1/2 inches and Corbin Douthitt in the 110 hurdles with a 21.58. Rodgers also placed fifth in the high jump and Douthitt was fifth in the 300 hurdles. Kevin Morales placed fifth in the 400 meters along with a sixth in the 100 meters, Chris Offield was fifth in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles. Tyler Lujon was fourth in the 110 hurdles and Kandon Bennett was fifth in the 100 meters.

Other participants for the seventh grade at Lindsay were Brayden McDonald, Cody Franklin, Ethan Scholl, Skyler Castro, Corbin Bloodworth, Conner Chambers and Sterling Headrick.

Eighth Grade Boys

The Bearcats received points in 11 of the 17 events which helped in the second place finish. In the final race of the night, it was the 1600 meter relay team composed of Cody Fletcher, Riley Watson, Nick Offield and Colton Stewart running away from the field and a gold-medal performance. The time for the relay team was 4:04.51, better than 4:13 ran in a practice meet.

Riley Watson also claimed a gold medal in the high jump in addition to placeing second in the triple jump and third in the 110 hurdles. Watson joined Cody Fletcher, Nick Offield and Colton Stewart for a fourth place finish in the 400-meter relay. Chance Edgett plced first for the Bearcats in the discus with a throw of 111-2 and was third in the shot put with a throw of 35-9.  Other placings for the Bearcats were Dellen Koetter with a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, Colton Stewart was second in the long jump and was on the second-place 800-meter relay team with Koetter, Offield and Fletcher. Skyler Velasaques was fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:36.24, Logan Carter was second in the discus and Zach Day placed sixth in the shot put.

Others that participated for the Bearcats were Conner Duncan, Tyler McMurry, Colton Terry, Tejas Edwards, Justin Koetter, Cutter Holloway, Cody Sheppard, Caleb Snyder, Mason Barry, Colum Reese, Brayden Seward, Jarrett Davis, M.J. Kelsey and Austin Barr.

The Bearcats will travel to Nocona next week.
