Courts release new redistricting map in time for May primaries

It is looking more like May 29 will be the date for Republican and Democratic primaries in the state of Texas after a federal court in San Antonio released new congressional and state legislature maps Tuesday afternoon.

Clay County remains in State House District 69, State Senate District 30 and U.S. Congressional District 13.

According to the Associated Press, the ruling by the three-judge panel clears the way for elections if none of the nine groups contesting the state political district file an appeal.

Several Hispanic organizations and other minority groups have claimed the Republican-controlled legislature drew maps that are discriminatory.
