Round one of the Class A, Div. II boys basketball playoffs showed no favor to Bellevue Tuesday night as the Eagles face state-ranked Dodd City. After four quarters, Dodd City came out on top, 63-46.
“They were on of the better teams we have seen play this year,” said Bellevue Coach Colby Broussard. “We got into foul trouble, which caused some mismatches on defense.”
Dodd City has been ranked no. 4 in state throughout the season.
Bellevue’s opponent took a 21-14 lead in the first quarter. The Eagles narrowed the deficit in the second, but could not bounce back, down 37-34 at halftime. Dodd City outscored Bellevue 15-13 in the third and 13-9 in the fourth.
Broc Terry and Tyler Terry led the eagles with 13 points each, followed by Brandt Cassetty with 12. Trace Garrison added six points.
The Eagles finished district with a 9-3 record, including a win over the then undefeated Midway Falcons in the final game of district play.
Following a first-round bye, district champion Midway (21-9) will face Coolidge for an area title Friday night.
