Bearcats open with 7-4 win


Scoring runs in the first and fourth innings, Henrietta’s varsity boys opened the 2012 baseball season at home with a 7-4 win over Rider’s JV Black team.

Ben Fletcher earned the win from the mound with Zac Byers coming in for the save.

Korben Allen opened on the mound, throwing 72 pitches for 45 strikes. Allen faced 13 batters. Fletcher faced 14 batters, with 66 pitches for 34 strikes, followed by Byers with nine pitches in the seventh for five strikes.

Strong fielding boosted the lefty for the save. Of his nine pitches, Byers tossed two groundouts and two fly outs.

The Bearcats outscored Rider 3-1 in the first inning, and 4-2 in the fourth. Rider also scored a run in the second inning. Henrietta out-hit the Raiders 7-4 and committed only two errors. Rider finished with three errors.

Joe Dell Williams hit two doubles and an RBI. Ben Fletcher also had a double and an RBI. Korben Allen and Conner Fletcher logged two RBI’s each, while Philip Davis had his first of the season. Byers had two stolen bases, and Ethan Cantrell stole one base.

Henrietta travels to Jacksboro on Thursday, Feb. 23, to face Glen Rose in the first round of the Jacksboro tournament. Game time is 11 a.m.
