Robert ‘Sam’ Groves of Petrolia


Robert Leon “Sam” Groves , 81, of Petrolia, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, in Wichita Falls.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Byers Assembly of God Church, with Jon Curry, pastor, officiating and B. J. Radke assisting. Burial will be in the Petrolia Cemetery, under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.

Mr. Groves was born Jan. 17, 1931 to T.D. “Daily” and Connie R. (West) Groves. He married Marcia Louise Sewell on Oct. 29, 1960 in Iowa Park. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart. He worked for Coca Cola and Surgikos as a fork lift driver.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Mary R. Mathis.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia Groves of Petrolia; son Dwayne Groves and wife Gerry of Petrolia; daughter Joyce Bujak and husband Walter of Dean; four grandchildren; brother Arnold Groves of Petrolia; two sisters, Helen Embry and husband Theo of Cleburne, and Martha Poyner and husband Jim of Petrolia, and brother-in-law Bob Mathis of Arizona.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Saturday at the Davis funeral Home in Henrietta.
