Ag Seminar to come to Henrietta March 1

Missy Hodgin
Texas AgriLife Agent

Everyone loves a free meal, me included!  This year to kick off the 27th Texoma Ag Seminar, March 1, ADM Alliance Nutrition is sponsoring a Producer Appreciation Meal.  A company nutritionist will also be giving a beef cattle nutrition update during the noon meal.  Producers interested in attending the meal should RSVP to the Extension office at (940) 538-5042 or 538-5052 by Monday, Feb. 27 for meal planning purposes.

Educational workshops will once again occur during the afternoon of the Ag Seminar following the noon meal.  At 1 p.m., Chad Fikes, Texoma Hathcery, will give a talk on pond management.  This year, the priority for USDA-NRCS EQIP funding is addressing water issues: i.e the construction of ponds, digging wells, etc, so this will be important information to many Clay County producers.  Kent Neville, Clay County Emergency Management Coordinator, and the Texas Forest Service will give a brief Fire Wise Update.  Next on the agenda, Henry Krueskopf, Texas Department of Agriculture, will talk about laws and regulations for pesticide applicators.  Finally, Chuck Coffey of the Noble Foundation will discuss pasture recovery, weed control and pasture herbicides.  This will be especially important for producers to hear as weeds will surely be a problem this spring after the rains that we’ve received recently on pastures that were in poor condition from last year’s drought.  Three CEUs will be offered to those with a Private Applicator pesticide license.  The cost to attend the educational workshops will be $10 per person.

The Grazing Hour will occur from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  We have some great vendors signed up!  There will also be entertainment, plenty of food and door prize giveaways.

All events during the Texoma Ag Seminar will take place at the Clay County Pioneer Hall, Henrietta, Texas.  All area producers are encouraged to attend to receive information which will help them make sound management decisions in their beef cattle operations.  Also, all producers are encouraged to attend the Producer Appreciation Meal sponsored by ADM Alliance Nutrition and to come for Grazing Hour and interact with the vendors and learn about any new products they may have.
