Bluebonnet readers honored


Henrietta Junior High sixth graders Gabrielle Matthews, Trey Essler (not pictured), Maddie Brown, Kelsey Voyles, Jonus Noack, Addie Duncan, Kaitlyn Williams, Logan Plaster-Durham, Jeffrey Smith, Evan Wheeler, Clayton McClain and Clayton Fugett were honored with an awards lunch at Leal's Mexican Restaurant in Henrietta.

Each year Henrietta Junior High sponsors the Bluebonnet Book Reading Contest for sixth grade students. Students reading five or more books are eligible to vote for their favorite book. This vote is calculated at the state level for the overall Bluebonnet winner.

Winning first place and receiving a plaque:  Logan Plaster-Durham read 15 books to win first place and a plaque. Second place and receiving a silver medal:  Clayton McClain read 10 books for a second place medal and Addie Duncan won a third place medal with nine books read.

Students reading at least five books were awarded a certificate. Certificate winners are Clayton Fugett, Kaitlyn Williams, Jonus Noack, Ryan Wheeler, Trey Essler, Kelsey Voyles, J.C. Smith, Gabrielle Matthews and Maddie Brown.

Contest participants were recognized at an awards ceremony and lunch on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Leal’s Restaurant in Henrietta.

Special guests were Jeff McClure, superintendent; Mandy Story, media director; Tracie Barry, sixth grade Reading teacher; and Robbin Avenius, library attendant.
