Falcons remain on top of 17-A; Ladies roll over Bears


Scoring almost half of its final tally in the first quarter, Midway domineered Gold-Burg in District 17-A varsity

The Falcon’s outscored their opponents 31-7 in the opening period, and by halftime led 46-18. The Falcons eased up on Gold-Burg in the second half, with a 14-9 third quarter. The Bears scored seven in the fourth to Midway’s six.

Keaton Merkel led the Falcons with 14 points, followed by Brent Jones and Mark Nall with 13 points each. Ben Forester scored 10 points, while Brody Wilson added five, Rowdy Terry scored four and Logan Harper scored three. Josh Fulbright and Austin Thorn scored two points each.

With the win, Midway moves to 8-0 in 17-A, and in command of the district.

Midway’s Lady Falcon’s earned a 43-29 win over the Lady Bears.

The Lady Falcons outscored Gold-Burg 8-3 in the first quarter, and continued to roll over their opponent with an 18-7 second and a 13-9 third quarter. Gold-Burg’s best quarter of play came in the fourth, outscoring Midway 10-4, but it was too little too late.

Kelli Forester led the Lady Falcon offensive effort with 11 points, followed by Erika Richardson and Miska Danielikova with nine points each. Breanne Merkel scored eight points and Cassidy Mass scored six.

Midway’s boys and girls travel to Forestburg Tuesday. The JV Boys begin at 4:45 p.m., followed by the varsity girls and varsity boys.
