Nine earn show heifers in Fort Worth calf scramble

Henrietta FFA members Riley Sizemore, Parker Dunkerley, Kassidy Beeler, Kasey Taylor, Cassie Pickett, Parker West and Katie Jo Blanscet were among the winners of the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo calf scramble winners during the Jan. 20-25 rodeo performances, while Braiden Obermier and Corby Henry-Morrison caught calves Jan. 29.

Sixteen high school students compete in each of the 30 stock show rodeo performances, with the goal of catching one of the eight haltered calves. Winners from each performance are rewarded with a $500 purchase certificate to help buy a registered beef or dairy heifer for a yearlong 4-H or FFA project.

Winners must care for their animals throughout the year, and return for the 2013 stock show to exhibit the animal in the junior heifer show. Those who do the best job will be in line for scholarship funds when they enter college. Last year, scholarships totaling $135,500 were awarded to 72 young people.
