Allen earns honorable mention on all-state football team


Korben Allen (5) and Joseph Costa tackle a Holliday ball carrier Oct. 14, 2011. The Texas Sports Writers Association has named Allen an honorable mention to the 2A All-State Football Team.

Henrietta linebacker Korben Allen received an honorable mention on the Class 2A All-State Football team, released by the Texas Sports Writers Association on Jan. 26.

The TSWA and Collin Street Bakery sponsor the all-state team.

Allen, a senior, led the Bearcat defense with 152 tackles in the 2011 season. Allen had 126 solo tackles and 52 assists. Eight of the tackles resulted in a loss of yards. Allen also broke up two passes and had one sack for the season.

Also receiving an honorable mention from District 3-2A Div. II is City View running back D.J. Brown.

D.J. Boyd, a defensive lineman at Holliday, is a second team all-state selection, while teammate Ryan Todd, was selected to the third team offensive and defensive lines.

Also selected to the third team are running back Tate Fenoglio of Nocona and defensive back Austin Twilligear of Holliday.

Holliday won the District 3-2A championship, followed by Henrietta in second place and Nocona in third. The Bearcats lead the greater Wichita Falls area in number of consecutive playoff appearances.
