Women’s Club to give Valentines


Members of the Byers Women’s Club met at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, in the Byers Community Center. President Tena Van Deventer called the meeting to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer led by secretary Kathy Westmoreland who also read the minutes of the December meeting. Treasurer Ava Lou Holmes gave the financial report.

In old business, Dora Burris reported on the progress of those working on the scrapbooks. In new business, thank you notes were read from the Senior Citizen’s Club, the family of Betty Aday, the Pregnancy Help Center, Hospice and Byers Improvement Group for recent donations and memorials. The members also approved sending a box of magazines to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

After the meeting was adjourned, members cleaned the Community Center and enjoyed a sack lunch.

Those present were Tena Van Deventer, Kathy Westmoreland, Ava Lou Holmes, Jonnie Barnhill, Dora Burris, Wanda Jean Elrod, Carol Hale, and Allene Schaffner.

The next meeting will be Feb. 14. Members will deliver Valentine cards and sing to residents of Henrietta Care Center, followed by lunch at Shenki’s Juice Cafe.
