Tommy Touvell, 57, of Petrolia was killed in a railroad accident Tuesday at a switchyard in north Amarillo.
A long-time employee of Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Touvell was struck by a slow-moving rail maintenance car. According to Amarillo news reports, Touvell was working with a crew to move a railcar off of the tracks for repair when he was struck by the rail maintenance car and pulled under the train.
Reports state Touvell was supposed to be on the tracks at the time of the accident. Investigators believe there may have been a miscommunication between that the driver of the maintenance car and the repair crew.
Touvell worked 40 years for BNSF, and was nearing retirement.
